More Than Mistakes

This was a data visualization installation focused on data analysis of spelling error types in typical school-age children over time. I wanted the project to communicate the idea that mistakes are not simply a failure on the part of the writer but a natural result of the way we understand language and how it’s expressed visually.

I eventually settled on a more interactive style of data presentation that resembled the school equipment we tend to associate with early writing. I also incorporated a lot of illustrations that correspond with misspellings at different ages. This added a lot to the message I wanted to communicate about the project, since it made the mistakes appear endearing and fun
